The Positives and Negatives of Getting Advertising Posters Printed

Author: Leo Greenwood

Posters are generally not as popular a printed marketing product as leaflets and flyers and there are a few of reasons for this.

  1. They are more expensive.
  2. You don't get as many.
  3. It's difficult to reach a specific target audience.

You are limited in the number of places you can display them Printed posters rely on people walking past and seeing them and then stopping to read them. However, posters can be very useful and an effective way of advertising your business. You need to make sure that the picture to text ratio is quite high on posters and they need to be visually striking in order to draw people in.

Posters are most commonly used for advertising events, but if you work within your shop space or have a waiting room of some description, they can be displayed within your own premises to alert your current customers of any other services that you may have on offer.

Posters tend to be printed on a thicker paper than leaflets and flyers and are generally higher quality, which is why they are more expensive. Think carefully about where you are going to display your posters. There are laws that stop you from pasting them just anywhere. Make sure that the designated poster areas are in places that your target audience will see them. If your poster is for an event, ask shopkeepers if they will display them in their windows.

Posters certainily can be a very effective marketing tool. Like anything though, you need to make sure you get it done properly. Get advice from a professional designer- they will have designed hundreds of promotional products before and this is their forte. And don't scrimp on print quality- it'll be obvious to your customers if you do.
